While Ocean Shores guards the northern entry to Grays Harbor, Westport WA stands sentinel at the southern rim of the mouth of Grays Harbor.  is just 1.63 miles wide from the tip of the southern jetty to the southern bounds of Ocean Shores.

On the southern rim of Grays Harbor opposite Ocean Shores is the fishing and ship-building village of Westport. The weather and general ambience is identical to Ocean Shores.

Yet, while Ocean Shores is all about tourism and vacationing, Westport is definitely a working town. Westport Shipbuilders is here, and one look at the harbor will reveal a whole armada of fishing vessels.

This is actually good news for you, the vacationer. Because if fishing is an interest of yours, you will find a good number of fishing charter opportunities, both half-day and full-day.

Westport WA



Westport WA is 164 miles (263.932 km) south of Port Angeles WA. It occupies the southern peninsula of Grays Harbor. (Ocean Shores is opposite it on the northern peninsula of Grays Harbor.

If your starting point is not Port Angeles, then:

  • Sequim WA is 148 miles (238.18 km) northeast of Westport WA. 
  • Forks WA is 128 miles (205.99 km) north of Westport WA.
  • Aberdeen WA is 20.8 miles (33.47 km) northeast of Westport WA.
  • Hoquiam WA is 24.3 miles (37.65 km) northeast of Westport WA. 
  • Olympia WA is 70 miles (112.65 km) east of Westport WA.

Westport WA Directions

Westport - Port Angeles:
To get from Port Angeles to Westport WA, you can head either east OR west on Hwy 101! Travel between Westport and Port Angeles by taking Highway 101's westerly route along the Washington State coastline. You'll drive by the Quinault and Hoh Rainforests, past Kalaloch and Ruby Beaches, and through the small village of Forks WA.

Or, take Highway 101's easterly route which follows the west shore of the Hood Canal, a beautiful drive that takes you through the scenic town of Hoodsport. This route is probably a few minutes faster.

Either way, once you get to Aberdeen WA, take Hwy 105 south and west along the southern shore of Grays Harbor. Hwy 105 will bring you right into Westport WA.

Tacoma WA to Westport WA:
Tacoma WA is east-northeast of Westport. From Tacoma, take Interstate 5 south. In Olympia, follow the signs for Hwy 101 north, Hwy 8 west, and Hwy 12 west. This will bring you into Aberdeen WA. At Aberdeen, Follow Hwy 105 west all the way into Westport. 

Ocean Shores to Westport WA:
Ocean Shores WA is like a sister city to Westport. Both towns are sentinals at the north and south rims of Grays Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. Because of the intervening water and lack of a bridge, one has to circumvent the entire Grays Harbor to get from one town to the other.

From Ocean Shores, take Hwy 109 east to Aberdeen WA, and then Hwy 101 east to Hwy 105 west into Westport WA.

At the far tip of the Westport peninsula, at the  junction of Westhaven Drive, Cove Avenue, and Neddie Rose Drive, is the Westport Observation Tower, which is very hard to miss! It stands over 3 stories tall, offering a 360-degree view for miles in all directions.

The structure was built to mimic a lighthouse, a nod to the local maritime culture and the nearby Grays Harbor Lighthouse. 

The views are quite spectacular; we highly recommend adding this simple pleasure to your Westport WA visit.
