 The Port Angeles Holiday Event Calendar is a listing of events, activities, and places in Clallam County. We will feature things do, places to go, and shopping/dining options that are fun and memorable. There will also be information about community outreaches, such as fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. Whether if you're a visitor to our quaint town, or one of the kind-hearted local citizens, Clallam County is a great place to be.

Details: After a two-year hiatus, Winterfest is back!

Enjoy Country Aire appetizers, an oyster bar and a delicious dinner prepared by Kokopelli Grill at Winterfest, the annual fundraiser hosted by the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation. Winterfest consists not only of great food, but also live music by BBR, a no host beer and wine bar as well as live and silent auctions. Contributions are tax deductible and proceeds support capital improvements to the ski area, and scholarships to underprivileged children in the community who would like to learn how to ski, snowboard or participate on ski team. Have fun with the winter sports community while attending one of the best fundraising events in Port Angeles.

Details: Family Days, sponsored by The Lodge at Sherwood Village, The Fifth Avenue, and Sherwood Assisted Living, will feature kids’ activities and photos with Santa, which will be printed immediately to be taken home. Details: One of the highlights of the holidays in Port Angeles is The Candy Cane Christmas Cabin at the corner of Race and First Street. The Cabin is the TAFY greenhouse/store, which has been decorated as a winter wonderland. It has shopping, beauty, charm, hot coffee, and free admission. Don’t let chain store shortages get you down. The TAFY Christmas Cabin is a local landmark serving the community and bringing seasonal cheer with delightful décor to transform your home into a holiday haven of joy.

Outside are lots of local hardy shrubs and bushes, including small living Christmas trees. The plants are a great way to dress up your home, and the living Christmas trees will be a holiday delight every year with a few simple strings of lights. There are more plants available in the Cabin/greenhouse, including adorable little succulents, great for the beginning or black thumb gardener. They also have their prime quality potting soil, great for feeding and mulching your prize greenery before the harsh winter sets in.

Onto the good stuff! If you are looking for GORGEOUS Christmas décor, from small centerpieces up to theme trees, the Christmas Cabin is THE place to go. Santa’s florist elves have been hard at work, making beautiful treasures out of donated Christmas décor. The prices are good too; workmanship at this level usually has a much higher cost, but the volunteers who make these gorgeous displays make beauty on a budget.

There is also a huge silent auction for gift baskets. The baskets have every conceivable theme: home spa pampering, Seahawks swag, pet presents, and much, much more. The auction is going until Dec 17th, so you’ll have plenty of time to get it before Christmas. If you’re dreading crowded stores, wanting one stop shopping, or looking for a unique and special gift that will be remembered, take a gander at these gift baskets.

Another great thing about the Christmas Cabin is that you can go every week and see new wonders. As trees and wreaths find new homes, the elves are working away to make new displays. (After a carefully negotiated bribe of cinnamon spiced hay for the reindeer, I was able to take a secret tour of the workshop. My eyes spun in circles looking at all the boxes of supplies!) It is also open during the week and weekends, so it’s a great place to stop by without a tight schedule.

So where does the money go from the sales? Great question! TAFY is The Answer For Youth. They are an outreach ministering to homeless and at risk people under age 35. They have partnered with many local charities and churches. Their emphasis is on recovery over enablement. They work with people on both short term needs such as food and clothing, and long term needs like education and food handler’s cards to get work. TAFY has specific programs to break the destructive cycles that lead to high risk and homeless lives, such as parenting and anger management classes. Broken people usually come from broken homes, and TAFY gives clients life skills and tools so they don’t continue the destructive patterns that they were raised with. TAFY focuses on teaching people to make better life choices.

TAFY is staffed by volunteers and funded/supplied through donations. This means the money that is raised goes to the mission. If you want to make a difference, they take donations of cash and goods, and you can also shop for one of a kind Christmas décor. They are also looking for more volunteers to make beautiful Christmas decor. Dont have the talent? No worries! You can be a helper for talented people and Christmas cheer will sprinkle on you like sparkly elf cookie crumbs!
