About Barhop Brewing and Artisan Pizza

Barhop Brewing and Artisan Pizza are all about two premium products: A variety of craft beers brewed in-house, and top-notch artisanal pizzas.

Their story started in 2010 with a small brewery located behind Harbinger Winery. The winery provided space in their tasting room for beer tasting and sales.

In 2012, the brewery moved to the current building on Railroad Drive, right on the waterfront.

November 2015 marked another milestone with the addition of an experienced head brewer, Josh Blue, who is still a part of the Barhop Brewery team.

A month later, the business expanded to include artisanal pizzas. What's not to like about pizza and beer? Especially THESE pizzas and brews?

Barhop-brewed beers range from pale ales to dark beers and lagers, and include refreshing ciders. When the seasons change, the offerings also change depending on the creativity of Josh Blue, the head brewer.

Barhop Today

Barhop now has two restaurant locations. Their 3-barrel system is located here at the taproom on Railroad Avenue. The decor is the distinct style of the Pacific Northwest: shiplap accents and heavy ceiling beams, industrial piping, dark wood floors and furniture, and vintage appearing Edison lights. A few outdoor tables overlook the water, so you can enjoy a tall cider in the salt air. They also have free-wifi for guests, so you can check in while you're there.

The big guns, the production brewery, is located in west Port Angeles near the airport. It has a tasting room with a small fingerfood menu, perfect for sampling. The atmosphere reminds one of a local pub.

I swung by the restaurant/taproom the other day and picked up 3 growlers to go - each of a different brew. I selected their Pacific Northwest Pale Ale, Irish Red (shades of Guinness), and Mosaic at Work (think Pilsner), all of it very tasty. They have great food and drink specials every day.

Another specialty is their daily fresh baked sourdough bread. They use the same 100 year old sourdough starter in their bread as they do in their pizza crust. Take a loaf with you for some fine dining at home, or as a treat to share with friends. Need a fast gift? Loaves are only $5, and everyone loves Barhop's fresh sourdough bread.

About Barhop's Artisan Pizzas

While Barhop offers soups, salads, and a short collection of small plate items, they are mostly about unique brews and pizzas.

An 800-degree stone oven factors largely in the perfectly crispy crusts of their artisan pizzas. They make the pizza dough in house daily, as well as the fresh sauces created from their own recipes - red, basil pesto, and bechamel white sauce.

Combine a perfect crust, fresh homemade sauce, the best cheeses and meats, 11-plus combinations of ingredients, and all of it topped with Parmegiano Reggiano while still piping hot....

Their menu also has other delicious entrees, such as charcuterie, potato wedges, calzones, and more!

My mouth is now watering.

What Customers Think About Barhop Brewing and Artisan Pizza

  • One customer said that they had beers here while waiting to return to Canada via the Coho ferry. The beers were great, they said. They were not hungry at the time, but said the pizza looked really good and they definitely planned to return. They even went as far as to say that they wish that they had restaurants like this in Canada.

  • Another customer said that they visited this restaurant two times about a year apart, and they enjoyed it just as much the second time as the first time. They said the beer is amazing and the pizza recommended by the waitress was delicious.

  • Another customer said that the restaurant's own brewed beer was excellent, the pizza was outstanding, and the restaurant was very relaxing.

  • Leia, part of the MyPortAngeles.com team, went there with family and had this to say: "It's a great casual place. The food is light with all fresh ingredients. They serve a great Sicilian style pizza. The music is upbeat but at a comfortable noise level. Several TVs around the bar project sports games onto a wall so you can see the Seahawks, Mariners, or Kraken, bigger than life. My Capretti was like bruschetta, but taken to the next level. Absolutely delicious!"
